The center of church life is worship, which is analyzed by liturgy, a sub-discipline of practical religious science. To understand what happens in the church, it is necessary to understand the liturgy. Until now, there was no liturgical textbook in Estonian that would help to understand what is happening in the service. The Book of Liturgy tries to fill this gap. The authors have discussed the biblical background of worship, doctrinal aspects, historical development, and modern developments, all of which are important for understanding worship.

The book conveys how different religious scholars and clergy treat the liturgy of their church in their field of study. The teaching staff of the Faculty of Religion of the University of Tartu, practitioners who influence the liturgical life of Estonia and the best experts in the field of liturgy of various denominations have contributed to the preparation of the book.
