The book describes Estonia's most important leguminous and gramineous forage plants and their seeds. It provides guidelines for their identification, gives an overview of the composition of forage seed mixtures, presents suitable sample seed mixtures, and discusses methods for the botanical study of grasslands, the calculation of pasture yield, the planning of a green fodder conveyor and crop selection, as well as the accounting and evaluation of hay. The book describes types of Estonian grasslands, their inventory, improvement, and the preparation of development plans.

The book serves as a study aid for laboratory practice and summer field practice in grassland cultivation for students of the Estonian Agricultural Academy, and as a handbook for agricultural specialists.
