The main department of the Society for the Care of the Wounded and Sick Soldiers instructed N.I. Pirogov to go to the place of action of the Danube army and inspect the hospitals, other sanitary institutions and sanitary trains subordinate to the Red Cross (institutions of private assistance). N.I. Pirogov examined military medical institutions, organized the transportation of the wounded, checked the effectiveness of treatment, arranged Russian baths in dugouts, wintering for the wounded and sick, examined soldiers' clothes, shoes, and monitored nutrition. H.I. During his stay in Bulgaria (from October 10 to December 17, 1877), Pirogov traveled about 700 km on a cart and sleigh and visited 10 out of 13 military temporary hospitals located in 19 settlements, 10 divisional infirmaries and 3 pharmacy warehouses located in 19 settlements. In 1879, a book was published that became a report on the activities of Pirogov, the organizer of medical and sanitary affairs during the war in Bulgaria. The book was the last work of N. Pirogov.
