Delors's "Memoirs" provide an overview of the journey of an unusual intellectual, trade unionist and politician, whose uniqueness has not diminished his popularity in the opinion of the French. After working at the French Central Bank, where he dreamed of cinema, high fashion and journalism and active trade union work, we find Delors behind the scenes of the government pulling the strings, from the National Planning Committee, as an advisor to Prime Minister Chaban-Delmas and the creator of the so-called new society. After a lectureship at the university, Delors was elected to the European Parliament and became Minister of Finance in Mitterrand's government. He then devoted himself to Europe, serving as President of the European Commission for ten years. A quarter of a century after Monnet, Schuman and Spaak, Delors was among the next generation of European fighters for economic, monetary and political union. From the point of view of the euro, Schmidt and Giscard were the pioneers, Kohl and Mitterrand the patrons, and Delors the midwife. History as written by one of its main makers.

The foreword was written in collaboration with the writer and journalist Jean-Louis Arnaud.
