The collection has been compiled in the hope that it could spark a broad public discussion about the education and status of teachers, teacher educators, and their assessors in Estonian society. As is well known, Estonia ranks among countries with high human development, and it is also known that, of all the fields considered in determining this development, it is education that contributes the most points for us. This value must be preserved. The collection should convince the reader that the teacher phenomenon is complex, multifaceted, and multilayered, that different countries have addressed the issue of teacher education in different ways, and that currently, teacher education is being harmonized within the European Union in a deliberate manner.
