The main goal of the dissertation is to reveal the regularities of the change and development of the written Estonian language, which are made possible by the longer religious texts in the northern Estonian language of the first half of the 17th century. Against the background of the lexical and morphosyntactic development of the older written language of Estonia, an attempt is made to characterize the linguistic specificity of the works of Heinrich Stahl, the most prominent German-speaking churchman of that time and the most influential author of early Lutheran church literature.
