Biologist Vambola Maavara's travel book takes the reader from the harsh nature of the Tien Shan Mountains to the foothills of Kazbek and the vineyards of Kakheti, making stops along the way at the pistachio savannas of Badkhyz and the islands of the Aral Sea.
