The collection originates from a research project conducted between 2002-2004, involving most of the authors of the articles, faculty members, and graduate students from the Department of Theatre Studies at the University of Tartu. It is challenging to find a single theoretical commonality among these articles; rather, they explore various approaches to theater, whether through phenomenology, Freud's dream theory, the theory of fictional worlds, or Zen Buddhism. However, what connects the different articles are the productions that have inspired these explorations: Mati Und's "The Master and Margarita" and "Brother Antigone, Mother Oedipus," Tiit Ojasoo's "Roberto Zucco," and "Julia," co-directed with Ene-Liis Semper, as well as Priit Pedajase's "Finis Nihili." The collection also addresses issues related to the concept of cultural performance.
