In 1957, higher actor training was restored in Estonia with the establishment of the Department of Performing Arts at the Tallinn State Conservatory (today the Theatre School of the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre), headed by Voldemar Panso. However, the need for a new generation of professionally trained actors exceeded the training capacity of a single higher education institution. This circumstance created favorable conditions for the emergence of studios established within theatres, which were founded to ensure the training of young actors in accordance with the immediate needs of each individual theatre.
