The book "Between Self and Societies: Creating Psychology in a New Key" brings together previously unpublished presentations by Jaan Valsiner, an internationally recognized Estonian native, which perfectly conveys the scope and depth of the author's theoretical interests. The book is conditionally divided into six thematic chapters (I Paths of development of psychology in the context of society, II How to study developing phenomena?, III Focus of cultural psychology: culture as a process within people and between people, IV Sign processes: how are meanings formed?, V Cultural and sign regulation in social and interpersonal in processes, VI Cultural and symbolic self-regulation) and provides a fascinating overview of the development of the central ideas of Valsiner's theory. The author's retrospective comments and two interviews add a more personal dimension to the collection. Jaan Valsiner (b. 1951, in Tallinn) is dedicated to the development of the theory of cultural psychology, which deals with the higher mental processes of a person, their symbolic nature and dynamic interaction with the social and cultural context. Today, he is one of the most cited alumni of the University of Tartu worldwide. Jaan Valsiner currently works as the Niels Bohr Professor of Cultural Psychology at Aalborg University and heads the world's first research center for cultural psychology. His numerous books include Culture and the Development of Children's Action (1987, 1997), The Guided Mind (1998), The Social Mind consciousness", 2000), "Culture in Minds and Societies", 2007), "A Guided Science", 2012), "An Invitation to Cultural Psychology" , 2014).
