Pierre-Jean de Béranger is regarded as the greatest master of the satirical song and the political chanson in world literature.

Vissarion Belinsky called him the true great poet of contemporary France, Hippolyte Taine ranked him among the five or six greatest French writers, and Karl Marx described him as immortal.

Yet Béranger's name has remained relatively little known in Estonia, while in Russia he has been one of the most beloved Western European poets for over a century.

This volume seeks, in its own modest way, to help remedy this gap for Estonian readers interested in literature.
