The book is a historical and theoretical essay on Western European ethics from Homer to Feuerbach. The main intention of the authors is to reveal the integrity of pre-Marxist ethics, which is found in the unity of origins, problems, methodological foundations and ideological goals. Philosophical systems of morality are considered from the point of view of their theoretical content and normative conclusions; many of them are for the first time the subject of careful Marxist analysis.
