Tuberculosis seemed, until recently, to be a problem of diminishing importance. However, the latest reports force us to abandon premature optimism: the increase in tuberculosis incidence, a record-high proportion of drug-resistant pathogens, difficulties in covering the costs of tuberculosis treatment for people without health insurance, and the weakening of tuberculosis control. In such a situation, it is necessary to reassess the circumstances and agree on an action plan for the way forward.
