The Estonian edition of "Obstetrics and Gynecology" has been in use since 1997 and has become a popular textbook for students, residents, and doctors at the University of Tartu's Faculty of Medicine. There is a lack of specialized and educational literature in Estonian, and this book has successfully filled that gap.

Medical science, including obstetrics and gynecology, is evolving rapidly—new knowledge enables the improvement of treatment and diagnostic methods. The development of medical technology requires increasingly new skills and narrower specialization. There has been a triumphant rise of endoscopic surgery.
