Having had a unique opportunity of working as a consultant and chief surgeon at the Academy of Medical Sciences of the Afghanistan Armed Forces during the 1981-1984 armed conflict, I found it expedient that I should write about the experience of our team of surgeons in treating the casualties of that military conflict for my younger and less experienced colleagues to benefit from our experience.
Lembit Roostar was born in Estonia before World War II. Hea graduated from the University of Tartu, where he received his Ph.D and Sc.D. degrees. For a long time Professor L. Roostar taught postgraduate courses at the Military Academy of Medicine in St. Petersburg. As a Colonel of the Armed Forces L. Roostar was the chef surgeon and consultant at the Academy of Medical Sciences of the Afghanistan Armed Forces during the armed conflict in 1981-1984. In 1990 he was elected Head of the Department of Cardiothoracic and Field Surgery of the University of Tartu. He has published over 300 scientific papers.
