What do people in Estonia think about Germany and German literature? What inspiration have Estonian writers received from German culture? How have they interacted with the long history of Estonian-German cultural exchange, which is now almost a thing of the past? The reflections and short stories of Estonian writers published here do not reflect influences from translating or reading one or another work, but from personal encounters and personal experience, from recognising oneself in the mirror of another culture, from 'domesticating' what is borrowed, from making the foreign one's own. They also point to connections that bring us, Estonians, closer to the Germans, both through the reception of contemporary German culture/literature and through origin and history.
