The collection focuses on the Bible conferences organized in 1686 and 1687, which were supposed to contribute to the publication of the North Estonian translation of the New Testament in print. The letters and consistory minutes preserved in the Estonian Evangelical Lutheran Church Consistory Fund in the Historical Archives in Tartu testify to the lively exchange of ideas between the clergy and Bible translators of the time. The preserved archival materials reflect discussions on substantive issues and disputes regarding the spelling and grammar of the Estonian language, as well as personal conflicts.
