The primary aim of this textbook is to help students acquire practical proficiency in a foreign language.

Depending on this objective, the presentation of the material in this textbook differs from that of previously published grammar books. There is no strict division between morphology and syntax; definitions of concepts already familiar to students from their native language have been omitted; sentence analysis is not treated as an end in itself; and particular emphasis is placed on explaining the differences between the grammatical structures of English and Estonian.
