The book tells the story of how Estonia and Finland found each other again and what Estonia’s restoration of independence looked like from the Finnish perspective. The slow but steady restoration of contacts, the new travellers along the routes between north and south, and Estonia’s rise during the Singing Revolution all form part of the book. What did we know about each other in the 1950s and 1960s and thereafter? How did information circulate, and who were the Finns who kept Estonia in their thoughts even when contacts between the two countries had been severed? The book seeks to answer these questions.
