Salammbô

"Salammbô", a historical novel by Gustave Flaubert was first published in 1862. It is set in Carthage in the 3rd century BC before and during the mercenary revolt. Thanks to Flaubert's in-depth historical research, he can offer the reader a vivid picture of ancient Carthage society, as well as characters based on real people next to fictional ones.
