Vana kannel. XIII, Laiuse regilaulud

"Volume XIII of Vana Kannel contains runo-songs collected from Laiuse parish, located in former Põhja-Tartumaa (now Jõgevamaa). Situated at the crossroads of various Estonian cultural regions (Central and Eastern Estonia, Northern and Southern Estonia), the song repertoire of Laiuse has fused components of multiple origins, resulting in a unique whole.

The songs published in the Laiuse volume of Vana Kannel were recorded over a period of a century and a half, from 1844 to the 1990s. The older part of the Laiuse song corpus is characterized by a large number of men's songs, while the 20th century is marked by the long-term and consistent documentation of children's repertoire.

The 1,709 song and charm texts of Laiuse provide a unique poetic overview of the feelings, relationships, way of life, and worldview of the people of Laiuse in former times. The introductory chapters introduce the history of Laiuse parish, the dialect of the runo-songs, the collectors, the song tradition, the singers, and the traditional melodies. The edition is equipped with indices, glossaries, and English summaries."
