Visvaldis Lams (b.1923) entered literature in 1953. as a talented and courageous author, with his own theme and his own, distinctive approach. That is probably why so many of his works have provoked discussions, diametrically opposed opinions and assessments.

This novel was published in 1972. in the magazine "Družba Narodov" and received the first prize among the works published in it.
