At the heart of the novel by Antti Tuuri (b. 1944), who belongs to the younger generation of Finnish writers, are three men from a distant northern Finnish town - a printing worker, an old chemistry professor and his painter son. In the course of the events, the life paths of these three very different characters meet, intertwine and diverge again.
