In the years immediately preceding the revolution of 1905, Särgava-Peterson was the head of the ministry school in Kose-Uuemõisa (1902-1905), where he took an active part in social life, joining the revolutionary struggle against social oppressors. Here he wrote a longer short story «Rahvavalgustaja» (1904) and a series of short stories and contributed to newspapers.
"Rahvavalgustaja" can also be considered a novel. In it, the writer examines the problems of the cultural life of the village and the petty bourgeoisie of the rural town at the turning point of the 80s and 90s of the 19th century.
