This annotated collection of documents sheds light on the struggle of the Estonian people for social progress during the years 1917–1940. In order to provide a better understanding of the socio-political preconditions for the restoration of Soviet power in 1940 and Estonia’s accession to the Soviet Union, the collection includes materials dealing with the initial victory of Soviet power in Estonia and with events on the eve of the Second World War.

Illustrated with documentary photographs, the collection is intended for all those interested in the history of the Estonian Soviet Socialist Republic.
