The book reconstructs the tragic events of 1940–1944 in Järvamaa, including the murder of the author’s pregnant mother and the subsequent fate of his father, while bringing both perpetrators and victims to light.

It is both a deeply personal quest for truth and a broader account of the violence and suffering endured by the Estonian people during the years of occupation and war.
