The book was compiled by brothers Arvo and Olavi Pest and contains letters they sent to each other from April 15, 1983 to September 29, 1986.

Tjhe letter sent by Arvo to his brother Olav, were sent from a strict regime penal institution in the Perm region, where he was serving his sentence as a political prisoner, i.e. he was a particularly dangerous criminal convicted of anti-Soviet activities. Since, for objective reasons, not many such correspondences have survived, this book is a kind of chronicle of Estonian cultural life during those years of imprisonment and an attempt to describe the Estonian social mentality at that time, through which a specific historical period emerges before our eyes, just a few years before the re-establishment of the Estonian Republic.
