Estonian volunteers who participated in the Finnish Winter War and Continuation War began to be called the 'Finnish Boys' (soomepoisid) upon their return to Estonia in August 1944. This name became widespread and remains in use today to describe the Estonian volunteers who served in the Finnish Army during World War II, even though the average age of the surviving 'boys' is now 85.

To date, 3,346 'Finnish Boys' have been identified by name; of them, 178 live in Estonia and 136 in other countries (including 59 in Canada and 46 in Sweden). At least 502 'Finnish Boys' lost their lives in the war, as Forest Brothers, or as victims of repression, while the fate of 81 remains unknown. The book provides an overview of the 'Finnish Boys' movement and serves as a sequel and supplement to the 1973 book Soomepoisid by Evald Uustalu and Rein Moora.

Mart Laar provides an overview of the Estonian volunteers' journey to Finland, their military path in Finland, Estonia, and in the final battles of World War II, as well as the role of the 'Finnish Boys' in the post-war armed resistance movement. Meelis Saueauk writes about the fate of those who fell into the hands of the Soviet regime. Hain Rebas focuses on the JR 200 Association in Gothenburg but also makes broader generalizations. Peep Pillak examines the activities and organizations of the 'Finnish Boys' in Toronto, Stockholm, Estonia, and Finland, as well as the preservation of their history. The work is illustrated with photographs, many of which are being published for the first time. The accompanying CD-ROM includes a list of the 'Finnish Boys' and scanned issues of the publications Üle Lahe, Kodutee, Malevlane, and other rare materials.
