As a museum of the county's history, the Põlva Folk Museum is an important historical and cultural centre for Põlva County. Over the past 30 years, the museum has accumulated significant collections and achieved a competitive level.

To date, all the museum buildings have been renovated. In terms of exhibiting its collections, the museum's facilities have expanded considerably compared to the early years. Work is underway to show people as much as possible of what has been collected over the years, rather than just sitting in repositories.
