The second part of the collection is a continuation and also the conclusion of the gathering of memories related to the restoration of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which began in the autumn of 2001. The first part of the book was dedicated to the 85th anniversary of the foreign service and covered the Estonian foreign missions that were reestablished during the restoration of independence.
The present section, dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the foreign service, focuses on events in the main building during the period around 1990-1995, with an emphasis on the restoration of independence and the immediately following period.
The stories in the book have been collected from 2001 to 2008. Sometimes, the time of writing or recording is important for understanding the context, and it is indicated in the heading. The stories are divided into three groups: firstly, interviews recorded by the compiler, secondly, memories written by the authors, and thirdly, notes from conversations. The selection of authors is based on the principle that the voices of various attitudes, backgrounds, and positions of the employees of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at that time are represented.
