The Light of Day (1962)

Arthur Abdel Simpson, a half-English, half-Egyptian petty criminal, gets caught smuggling in Turkey. To avoid prison, he’s coerced into helping a mysterious man named Harper - supposedly just driving a car across the border. But Simpson is soon entangled in a high-stakes plot involving a heist at the Topkapi Palace in Istanbul.

Dirty Story (1967)

Arthur Abdel Simpson returns, now broke and stateless. He’s offered a shady job in a fictional African country, where he’s drawn into a murky corporate war over mineral rights. Used as a pawn by a powerful mining company, Simpson fumbles through sabotage, mercenaries, and betrayal — surviving more by luck than skill.

This is a more cynical, darker tale than The Light of Day, highlighting post-colonial exploitation and geopolitical games.
