"In 2001 my father would have been 100 years old, and his memorial conference was held in Tallinn Central Hospital. There was a huge turnout to pay tribute to our father, including some of his former patients. A lot of good things were said about my father as a doctor. After the conference, I began to think back to my childhood and I found that if our family had not had such a mother, there might not have been so much good to say about Dad. In 1951, a bolt of lightning struck our beautiful life and shattered everything into a hundred pieces. In my book, I tried to pick up the pieces. I was brought up well by my parents and I have tried to pass on to my children all the good things my childhood gave me. We all come from a land of our childhood where the sky is beautiful, bright blue and cloudless, especially for those who lost their parents at an early age."
