In the novel, Hungarian literary classic Fernc Molnár (1878-1953) paints an unforgettable picture of the lives of the youth of Józsefváros. Every day, after school, the boys rush to the field with loud cries to fulfill their longing for adventure in this narrow square squeezed between noisy streets. On this little patch of green land, in battles between the tree trunks, they prepare themselves – without knowing it – for greater battles, for their future lives.
