Polymers have become an integral part of modern civilization, and the need for both already known and newly developed materials continues to grow. At the same time, the purposeful use of polymers and the development of effective methods for their environmentally friendly disposal are becoming increasingly important. Guidance for this is provided by polymer chemistry, which today is an interdisciplinary field of science that brings together knowledge from organic, inorganic, analytical, and physical chemistry, while also widely employing research methods from physics and biology.
