In 1949, in Germany, a work with the telling subtitle “Oskar Rütli’s Memoirs. On the Work and Struggles of an Estonian Generation (1871–1949)” was written, and it was published in New York in 1964. It is the spiritual testament to future generations of a man with an excellent memory, who had been active on the front lines of Estonian life and had associated with many figures of state, intellectual, and economic life, yet himself had remained in the background.
