There has not been a more comprehensive overview of the linguist Pent Nurmekunna, who was one of the great figures of the 20th century in Estonia. Some of his more than a thousand students from various fields of science and life have passed away. it is high time to make some sort of summary and retrospective of the life and activities of this extraordinary personality, in which his students and/or people who had closer contact with the subject participated.
The first part of the book contains an overview of the life and activities of Pent Nurmekunna, which also includes a bibliography.
In the second part "From the Atlantic to Altain, Abja and Hallisten", some of Pent Nurmekunna's writings about traveling and the East, where he was led by his great interest in the West from different cultures and his desire to learn new languages one after another, have been collected. There is also a flashback to his prison camp years in the central part of Russian Karelia, where he got to know the languages and dialects of his fellow prisoners.
Recollections of the third part of the book Pent Nurmekunna's students and people who interacted with him.
