This book contains papers in memory of the Swedish art historian Sten Karling presented at a conference at the Estonian Academy of Art in May 1996. The authors of the papers are students of Sten Karling´s, students of his students, as well as art historians for whom, one way or another, the professor of both Tartu and Stockholm Universities has been a guide, or has provided inspiration or knowledge in treatments of the history of art of the Baltic Sea countries.
